Beach day

I had a much needed day of rest, relaxation and friends at Meyeonshshimni beach in Wando today. I truly did not feel like I was in Korea.  There were around 150 waygooks in attendance, we pretty much took over a good portion of the beach. There was volleyball, ultimate frisbee, swimming, BBQ-ing, football etc. It was a wonderful day. I showed up with my group of friends around 3, the beach was overcast, but warm, so we set up shop and laid out for awhile. Since we didn’t have a tent, we rented a min-bak, which was my first (and last) time sleeping in one. I am NOT a fan of sleeping on the floor with no blankets!

There were plenty of drunken ‘frat-boy’ activities going on, beer pong, soju shots, that sort of stuff, but I sort of just stayed in my area, laying out and playing ultimate frisbee. Later in the night I ran into some friends from orientation which was really nice. We ended the night with a huge bonfire where everyone crowded around talking and mingling, then we made S’mores, which were amazing. I never knew how much I missed those damn things.

People were still up getting wasted, I was tired from the sun, so my friends Emily and Edward and I walked back to our  min bak (which we had left the ondool on so it was HOT in there) showered and knocked out. Around 630/7 I awoke and walked outside to a gorgeous day. So everyone went down to the beach, hopped into the water, made some breakfast burritos and just chilled out. The weather was perfect, clear skies a slight breeze, I really felt like I was in Cali, it was so odd.

I laid out a little too long and now am dealing with those consequences :-( I can’t wait to hear what the kids have to say tomorrow about my red face!
