I just had an amazing birthday weekend. Actually, I’ve had a great few last weekends all in all. Wando beach, then Busan, then my birthday weekend in which my bestest friend and her lover came to visit.

The first night my friend and her lover were here, we went out for my Bday dinner and consumed way too much soju, BBQ and beer. Friday at work was no bueno for Dione Teacher. Friday night I went out with all of my Gwangju friends and my visitors for dinner, which was really chill and laid back.

Saturday we had a Red Dress Hash run, in which people from all over Korea, and a few people from out of the country, came to Gwangju and we all ran around the city following a trail in red dresses (yes, men too) scaring aujummas, ajushi’s and little children, all while drinking copious amounts of soju and beer. We all met up around 230 pm and people didn’t start going home until about 2 am…so it was a lonnnnnnng night but probably one of the more fun weekends I have had in Gwangju.

Two weekends ago was the Busan Beach Volleyball tournament which was amazing. I had been longing to play volleyball in Korea since I got here 10 months ago and I finally got my wish. Playing with other foreigners and Korean’s was a lot of fun and I hope to do so again in the near future before I leave in 2 months!

The last few weekends have really help the time go by a lot faster for me. Having something to look forward to in the weekend makes work more bearable for me. I know my time is winding down here and I still have a few things I need to cross of my bucket list (i.e. zip lining in a few weeks) before I leave but I am ready to go! I honestly never thought I would make it this long and to tell you the truth, I probably would have regretted leaving early as I had wanted to. I miss my Fiance dearly, more and more everyday, but this opportunity has definitely taught me things about myself that I would not have otherwise had the opportunity to discover being back at home. I always said I wanted to live abroad (and hope so again someday) and I am glad I finally did so.

I realized that I am very fortunate to have a best friend and a fiance who both have had the opportunity to come see me in Korea. I know a lot of people that aren’t able to have anyone visit, so I keep thanking my lucky stars for having had three people come and visit me.
